A Victorian house in Vancouver's vibrant Strathcona neighbourhood had everything a young family with 2 kids could need with the exception of a functional kitchen and bathrooms. As we began the design process, the clients found out twins were on the way! Unable to expand in square footage, the design brief called for highly functional spaces that would be super durable for 4 young kids.
A modern design sensibility was requested while respecting the character and detailing of the original house. Sloped and beautifully worn wood stair-treads and a newly revealed original brick chimney provide a counterpoint to the clean lines and simple detailing of the new design elements. In the kitchen and bathrooms, colourful Fire Clay tile brings the spaces to life, along with wood accents reclaimed during the demolition process.
